Gua Sha for Allergy Relief

Gua Sha and jade rollers, when applied over specific acupuncture points, can offer a powerful and natural self-care treatment for managing allergies at home.

These traditional Chinese medicine tools work by stimulating the skin and underlying tissues, promoting increased blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. By targeting key acupuncture points associated with respiratory and immune function, Gua Sha and jade rollers help to reduce inflammation, clear congestion, and alleviate symptoms such as runny nose, itchy eyes, and sinus pressure.

How Do You Use The Gua Sha and Jade Roller Tools?

I always recommend starting your gua sha and jade roller self-treatment with clean skin and add your favorite serum to the area you’ll be working on (this helps reduce friction)! Choose something natural, safe, and that feels good! We love the Active Complex Face Serum by Urban Herbs for its healing properties and high-quality oils.

For your technique in using the tools, I recommend you hold the Gua Sha Tool at a 30-45 degree angle to your skin.

Apply gentle pressure so that the tool glides smoothly over your skin without causing pain.

And almost always move the tool upwards and outwards direction, following the contours of your face or body.

For the Jade Roller, the same technique applies. I recommend using the larger end for bigger areas like your cheeks, over the scalp, or on large muscle bellies and the smaller end for under the eyes or on top of specific acupuncture points for a more targeted treatment.

Here’s some of our favorite areas to Target

  • LI 20 is located right at both sides of the nose. Use pressure to pull outward and upward. This point helps relieve nasal congestion, runny nose, and sinus pressure.

  • All over the Scalp. Using the jade roller to apply pressure backwards on the head, along the Bladder, Gall Bladder, and Stomach channels helps Improve blood flow, reduces sinus headaches, and alleviates overall congestion.

  • The Belly of the hand, aka the Thenar Eminence, eases cough, soothes an itchy throat, and relieves chest congestion.

  • LI 4, located between the thumb and index finger, is one of the best points for reducing overall allergy symptoms, including headaches and sinus pressure.

  • Stomach 36, found about four fingers below the knee and one finger-width lateral to the tibia, boosts immune function and helps alleviate respiratory symptoms.

Using Gua Sha and jade rollers for self-care is gentle and non-invasive, making it a suitable treatment for both adults and children.

The soothing, repetitive motions of these tools not only provide physical relief but also contribute to a calming, meditative experience.

This holistic approach addresses the root causes of allergic reactions by supporting the body's natural healing processes, enhancing overall well-being, and offering a safe, effective method for managing allergies from the comfort of your home.
